FAQ

  • What is a doula, and am I required to have one?

A doula is a non-medical support person who accompanies you throughout pregnancy and birth for physical and emotional support. While having a doula is not entirely necessary, it is encouraged if you are birthing for the first time or have experienced previous trauma. If you don’t already have a doula, we have a list of recommendations for some of our trusted favorites.

  • Do you accept insurance?

I am currently not in-network with insurance providers. I can provide a superbill at the end of pregnancy for you to submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Even though compensation is not a guarantee, there have been many families that have been able to receive partial or full reimbursement.

  • Can I have prenatal care with a midwife if I prefer to deliver at a hospital?

Yes, PBW offers this option. The hospital for delivery is based on the parents’ preference. If these options align with your preference, your midwife will help you coordinate the transfer process before birth, and an electronic copy of your prenatal records will be sent to you at the start of labor. Upon discharge from the hospital, you may return to PBW for postpartum care unless it is medically necessary to stay within the care of an obstetrician.

  • How much does a home birth cost?

On average a home birth is between $5,000-10,000. Prices may vary by state, region, or economic conditions.

  • Are there other ways to pay for home birth services?

Yes, companies like “Medishare” and “The Birth Fund” provide payment plan options. We also help you find resources if needed.
